4 Reasons Why Circular Fashion is the Way to Go

When you think of being sustainable, there are various ways in which you can follow the three Rs. However, one of the major industries that end up filling the landfills of any region is fashion. Fast fashion and mass-produced clothes end up degrading quickly and settle in a landfill for a long time. As opposed to that, circularity promotes a healthy cycle of fashion that ensures everything you buy goes around and comes around correctly. Want to know how?

Here’s all about circular fashion and why it is the new trend.

What is Circular Economy in Fashion?

As the name suggests, circular economy in fashion refers to a cycle in the fashion industry where any apparel is designed and produced while keeping its sustainability in mind. Circular fashion refers to all elements used in garment sourcing and creation that should ensure minimum carbon footprint and maximum source utilisation with their process.

In circularity, you use the elements already in the making cycle. The purpose of circular fashion is to reduce the number of products purchased first and upcycle the existing ones.

Difference Between Regular Fashion and Circular Fashion

If you need clarification as to why circular fashion is the best way, let’s see some of the major differences between regular and circular fashion.

Design Stage

During the design of a fashion product, the designer does not merely focus on the outer appearance of the design in a circular fashion. They think twice about whether it can be manufactured using sustainable materials, whether it is timeless and whether it can be used by the consumers for the longest possible time, etc. Whereas regularly, especially in fast fashion, a product is designed keeping maximum sales and current trends in mind. As a result, the current fashion trends might only last for a while, ultimately leading the consumers to not use the product to its optimum.

Production Stage

Circularity promotes eco-friendly and sustainable materials that are durable and easily decomposable or biodegradable so that they quickly return to nature. Such elements are used in the production of circular fashion styles. In contrast, regular fashion focuses on mass production and sales without considering where a product’s life cycle will end.

The factories producing these upcycled products might have specific carbon emission stats. However, if you compare the longevity of its end products with fast fashion mass-produced products and the emissions in their process, it certainly has a lower carbon footprint.

Consumer Usage

The durable nature of these circular fashion products allows consumers to use these for a long time. These can later be donated or passed on to some other consumer instead of going in the trash.

The Circular Economy

These clothes are recycled and do not end up in landfills. They are again brought down to their primal elements of threads and broken down into different raw materials. These then generate yarn balls which are again continued in the circular economy cycle that creates new clothes, and the cycle continues.

Don’t you think this is a much better way to approach fashion? Circular fashion includes cotton, wool and other fabrics, yarns and trims. This is a renewable method using fashion technology and economic principles that enable you to upcycle the same products for infinite uses. More importantly, with this cycle, we take a lot less from nature and give back a lot more. Choose the best. Choose circularity!
