It is believed to have originated in Russia. Due to the cold weather conditions of Russia, it was nearly impossible to grow grapes for making drinks. As a result, people started looking for alternatives. People started experiments with various types of grains. That is one of the main reasons why it was named “bread wine” originally. It started gaining popularity during the Russian Revolution but gained worldwide popularity during World War II.

• The plain – This has almost no taste of its own, which makes it a perfect drink for making cocktails and for using in different types of dishes and sauces. It has the highest alcoholic content.
• Flavoured – These types of drinks are gaining popularity nowadays. The reason is simple: there is no need to use any mixers. Flavour can be decided during the fermentation process. These are convenient to drink and are full of flavours.
• The infused – These are also in high demand. Making it generally requires a lot of time. They are infused with different fruit flavours or even certain types of herbs, and just like wine, the flavours improve with time.
• The grain – The flavour of grain is generally intense. The concentration of alcohol is generally high, about 95%. This concentrated liquid is mixed with water to get the desired results. It is mixed with several ingredients to get the best flavour.
