My husband and I spent a lot of money on our porch. I found out on the phone that this was a problem because the house is a $100,000 mortgage and I couldn’t find any other ways to cover those expenses. So we settled on a little more self-assessment and self-care.
We both think that for every hour we spend on our porch, we spend about $10 on ourselves. That’s worth it.
I found that the most important part of porch care is to take time to do nothing. I find that if I take just 30 minutes on my porch on each day for myself, I notice things I used to notice every day when I was watching the porch and I notice things I used to be able to notice in a world where I had no sense of when the sun went down.
If you don’t want to read about the things that you forget about, I highly recommend reading about the things that you forget about – and that is something you can do for yourself.
The thing is, taking time to take nothing out of the world is one of the most important things you can do for yourself, and not just for your porch. It’s not a matter of choosing to take on too much. It is simply a matter of not being so busy that you can’t notice what’s happening out there.
If you are busy, it’s hard to miss out on stuff. If you are busy, even if you don’t notice a thing, it’s hard to miss out on things. If you are busy, you may not realize that there is nothing to do.
