Playing is thrilling and fun, and so is cycling. Did you know that cycling boost mental health and stress coping mechanism in the body?
Kids are free spirits and thus are incapable of sticking to a routine. This is also why you don’t find many kids at fitness clubs. But cycling is something then even adults enjoy. This recreational activity has several benefits attached to it, especially for kids.
Encouraging your toddlers to develop a habit of cycling will go a long way in developing excellent motor skills. There are several supporting equipment like a berg go kart and three-wheeler cycles that can help your kid lure into cycling.
Here’s how you can buy the right bike for your kid.
Your child will soon outgrow any bike that you buy. Therefore, there’s just no sense in buying a costly buy. However, this doesn’t mean you need to compromise on the quality of the bike.
Hence, invest in a safe yet adjustable bike, so your child can use it over a few years at least. For example, buying a bike with an adjustable seat will increase its utility as your child can use it for longer.
Now, apart from the adjustable feature, also ensure that the bike is comfortable to ride for your child.
While you verify all the safety and comfort factors, check the coaster brakes’ working. Check the spinning of the front wheel and ensure it has spokes, rim and metal hub. Ensure that the frame of the cycle or the berg go kart is rigid and doesn’t bend when applied brute strength.
Determining the right size of the bike can be very confusing. Hence, it would be better to ask your child to try the bike at the shop per se to understand the equipment’s suitability.
While your child is trying out the bike, pay attention to the pointers mentioned to ensure your child’s comfort and safety.
Children will nod their heads at every article they find aesthetically pleasing. Hence, the burden falls on the parents’ shoulders to cross-check all the necessary variables while buying.
At the same, the bike should be of the right size so that the rider straddles comfortably and even plant their foot flat on the ground.
Moreover, there should be enough distance between the handlebars and the knees of the child while riding. But the distance shouldn’t be so wide that your child faces difficulty manoeuvring the bike. So, be wary of the gap as it might jeopardise their safety and comfort.
It will take time for your child to get accustomed to the bike, and in the process, they are bound to get injured.
The learning process will be a bit of scratch and falls; there’s nothing you can do about it. However, you can certainly reduce the extent of these injuries by buying a helmet for your kid.
Head protection will keep your child from experiencing any severe injuries to their head. Make sure that the helmet fits properly and that your child consciously wears it whenever they go on a ride on their bike.
Most children can develop the fundamentals of pedalling and steering at 4. Teaching your child to learn a bike can be time-consuming and take a lot of patience.
However, learning how to ride a bike and practising regularly will help them develop physical coordination, agility and balance in the long run.
