In this post, we’re going to be taking a look at the definitive tier list for Marvel vs Capcom 2. This game is old enough that many people might not remember it, but there are still some players who enjoy playing it competitively and want to know what characters are best. There’s no better way to find out than with our tier list! We’ve also included some tips on how you can improve your gameplay so that you too will become an expert MVC2 player.
Tier lists are one of the most controversial topics in fighting game community. There is no single right answer and everyone has their own opinion on what a tier list should be like. We’ll address that later, but for now, let’s get started with our list!
The Definitive MVC II Tier List: The following charts each have different tiers inside them representing how common they appear to be played by professionals today. On this tier chart you will find the top five best characters at either high or low level play based on netplay usage statistics from sites such as Shoryuken, SRK Live Data Feeds and Maxrankings. This data was compiled over time between April 2013 – November 2015 using tournament archives including EVO, CEO, Capcom Cup and many more.
Tier A: Ken, Ryu, Akuma
Tier B: Wolverine, Cyclops
Tier C: Storm (Storm), Cammy (Cammy)
Top Tier D Characters: Marduk [The King of Fighters XIV], Dhalsim [Street Fighter II] Note that this list is based on overall tournament performance rather than the most recent data from Shoryuken or SRK Data Feeds as these are limited to Street Fighter IV games only. This means you may see some older characters who have dropped in popularity since then still listed here due to their previous success in tournaments.
This tier chart does not include boss fighters such as Apocalypse, Shin Akuma, Omega Red or any other hidden characters.

In a fighting game where players can choose from an assortment of different character types and moves that are unique to each individual, it is inevitable that there will be a tier list. Tier lists rank different characters in order from highest skilled/most powerful at the top to lowest skilled or most underpowered at the bottom of their respective groups. This allows players who enjoy using certain character types to find out where they stand with others and what potential matchups may look like when pitted against another player’s team.
The Definitive Guide: MVCII Tier List
In this guide I’ll hope not only provide you information on how tiers work but also go into detail about why some fighters are higher ranked than others across varying tournaments and events across all three games (Street Fighter IV, Street Fighter X Tekken, Super Smash Bros). You should note that this tier list is my own personal opinion and should be taken with a grain of salt as there will always be people who disagree…
In the following section, I’ll talk about how tiers work. A lot of these points are what you may have heard before but I’m listing it for clarity’s sake.
